100th United Church of Canada Anniversary

 We will shortly be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the United Church of Canada which was created on Tuesday, June 10th 1925 in Toronto.  On that date, the Methodist Church, the Congregational Union of Canada and 70% of the Presbyterian Church agreed to a union to be known as the United Church. It was a process duplicated in Peachland that was brought home to all of us when we celebrated our own 100th anniversary in 2011. The official, national denominational service will be held online from Gower Street United Church in St. John’s, which can seat 1000, on Sunday, June 8th– details to follow. 

With endorsement from our Board, it is broadly proposed that our celebrations revolve around two dates:

Saturday June 7th – An  “Open House” will involve activities in both the church and hall from noon to 3.00 pm. A public invitation to take part in ringing the church bell 100 times will run from 1 to 2 pm  with refreshments having a distinct 1925 flavour being offered in the hall. Period costumes will add to the centennial setting as will the decorations. Our renowned Bargain Bin team will be in full support of the afternoon’s activities.  

Sunday June 8th – the closest Sunday to the actual anniversary will commence with a special morning service of celebration starting at 9:30 am    

Our Sunday Services are held at 10 AM.  You can still join us even if you can't come to church as our service will have the capability for you to also join us via Zoom.
